Another entry in the “You know your town is small when…” file is coming up!
Brookneal Union-Star: Council addresses CEO’s concern about police dept.
No, not the rumor of Brookneal closing its police department down (even though they might not have a cop when somebody takes a vacation day. HA!).
No, not the town water tank getting completely drained because of a company’s sprinkler malfunction.
We’re talking about this gem…
Jennings also relayed the news that local citizens have been complaining about the town office’s business hours. The office is open all day on Monday and Friday, closed Wednesday, and open to the public during the afternoon on Tuesday and Thursday. “People would like to see it open 40 hours a week,” he said. “They can see that people are in the office (when it’s closed to the public) and think it should be open.” Mayor Campbell pointed out that (Public Works Director Mike) Crews and clerk/treasurer Bobbie Waller are working with $9 million dollars worth of grant paperwork and need some “quiet time” for that as well as allowing Waller to take her vacation and sick days.
Yep, the town clerk/treasurer needs her quiet time, folks. We wouldn’t want the taxpaying citizens to disturb “quiet time”, would we? 🙄
