But if they’re going to foreclose City Hall in Buena Vista, the police station’s going with it.
Buena Vista in financial trouble
Let me get this straight. A town of 6500 residents takes out a $9,200,000 loan for a golf course? A friggin’ golf course?
Oh yeah, that’s smart financial planning right there. Fools. Money. ‘Nuff said.
Ugh, when I’m in Lexington, I’m right next to BV, God bless ’em. They have great Italian food and a really nice park. But … really?
I imagine that they thought they could capitalize on the W&L and SVU student population by offering cheap golf, and it’s really a nice course. But Lexington Country Club decided to offer a student membership and, why drive to BV to play golf on a public course when you can play in Lex on a private one?
Also, no bank should ever have made that loan. This is just fail all around.
The town put up their Municipal Building, including the Police Station and courts, up as collateral for a loan to build a competing golf course? Really? And the article doesn’t mention any of the government big brains being fired or prosecuted? That makes me wonder what Halifax County put up as collateral to build Riverstone?
samuel: do you have the sense that BV has 6,500 residents? I sure don’t. I go thru there all the time to Lex to visit my brother.
I mean, how many non-student residents in Rockbridge Co. total?
I certainly don’t get the idea that BV has 6500 residents, although as far as land area, it’s a lot bigger than Lexington. I’m not sure how many non-student residents Rockbridge has, but it’s not enough to support that many golf courses.
We’ll have to hang out next time you come through Rockbridge.
