Earl Womack’s adventure of resigning his job but not resigning his elected position then resigning that one too slipped under my radar for a while. Let’s fix that now…
Womack resigns from board of supervisors
I don’t know what we have here, but we have something. Womack originally said he was going to keep the elected position. How’d that work out? I’m pretty sure we’re going to have more in a few weeks/months. People don’t normally run for the Board of Supervisors than resign both their job and the position they were elected to. Somethin’ ain’t right. We’ll find out soon enough.
Now let’s get to the racial elephant in the room and that’s Earl’s final request that a black person be appointed to the seat until the special election can be held…
Earl, shut up and go away. You’re costing Halifax County a lot of money that they didn’t have to spend by resigning your office that you just took the oath a few months ago. You didn’t even have the guts to show up to the meeting and turn in your resignation yourself. You had to get Bryant Claiborne to do it for you. You didn’t even give a real reason why? You don’t get any say-so in who replaces you as far as I’m concerned because of your actions. If you truly believed in the best for your district and for Halifax County, you’d have said that you wanted to have the best person appointed to the position no matter what their race is. Nope, you had to throw that race card into the pile because you knew that the 2nd place finisher was a white guy. We can’t have a white guy in that district, can we? The Justice Department decreed that, eh? Earl, just shut up and go away.
Finally, let’s look at the Gazette-Virginian article about the investigation that may or may not be happening. (Here’s a safe bet: It’s happening.) Anyway, as usual, the crazy commenting makes my day. My favorite one was from Tiffany Hudson, the reporter that used to work at the GV. She should know that this is a legitimate article even though it’s short on detailed information (which it would have to be because everything is secret at this time). Oh yeah, we had somebody trying to bring up The Rat Crap Controversy. My mind. It boggles.
Anyway, back to Earl Womack’s temporary replacement. We’ll see if the 2nd place finishing white guy gets it over the 3rd place finishing black guy. Or, the board could go in some other direction with somebody else. Halifax County’s board of supervisors isn’t as dysfunctional as Pittsylvania County’s is… yet.
