In Part #3 of our PhotoCentral series on Reidsville’s mostly-deceased Pennrose Mall, we had signs of life with Roses & Bob Adams Florist. Let’s return to our journey of doom & gloom in Part #4.

Buckle up, kiddies. Let’s go!
Bob Adams Florist is using the vacant (hell, almost everything is vacant here) old Kidz Zone location for display and storage space. That means just leaving flower arrangements on the floor, so it seems.
What used to be Hibbett Sports used to be an Eckerd Drugs that had a lunch counter. Hibbett Sports bailed out to a Freeway Dr. location a few years ago. As you can see, I went ahead and fired my shotgun multiple times at the ceiling. Not really, but it looks that way and nobody sure as hell would have cared if I had fired a shotgun here.
Even the fake plants are looking droopy here. I’m assuming somebody waters the real plants. Or maybe they just move them under leaks in the roof.
Oh, there’s so much to talk about in this photo. We’ve got the chained-down gumball machines (complete with petrified gumballs), the planters that are oddly placed just to impede any foot traffic (what foot traffic?) and the coin-operated carousel. Please note that the floor in front of the carousel has a stain that may or not be dried vomit from the terrifying ride.
One-Stop Cellular. At least the sign is still in excellent condition. Let’s take a look at that stuff inside the store area. Oh yeah, this space is for rent!
Here’s some of the crap that is for sale inside the dead One-Stop Cellular location. We’ve got some lamps, some crap, some Modelo beer promotional items, some crap, some paintings and also some more crap. If you want to buy some of this crap, forget it! There’s no explanation why this junk is inside the store.
As we move down from the dead One Stop Cellular location, we find this dead store with foil Christmas wrapping paper covering the doors, more assorted crap that you can’t buy (or would want to buy) in the display window, and two glass doors just sitting out. If you had a need for a glass door, nothing is here to stop you from taking one.
That’s it! I’ve had enough! I’m going down the hall to the Pennrose Mall Management Office and demand some answers about why this mall has fell apart!
This is not a promising start on my quest for answers. No, I didn’t kick in the fake wooden window.
Will I make it to the Pennrose Mall management office? Will I get the answers that I’m demanding? Why should anybody care?
Those answers are coming up in Part #5 of our surreal journey… here on SouthsideCentral!

Perfect location for “The Walking Dead”…I’m thinking of rescuing a few of the live plants, seems such a shame they even have to be there! 🙂
Honestly, I don’t think you’d be caught. 😀

This blog on Pennrose Mall makes me sad– I find no humor in the care or lack there of that has been given to this place. I grew up in Reidsville and this mall is a placed filled with many wonderful memories for me. From having a grilled cheese with my grandparents at Eckerds lunch counter to purchasing school shoes each year at Strader’s shoe store. Maybe the community or owners need inspiration to better the place instead of all the reasons it needs to be demolished. Live on Pennrose Mall because there are children out there who deserve the wonderful memories I have!
My father ran the Bestway grocery store across the road. I went with him to work and went to Pennrose Mall often. But hey, gotta have some fun with it. I’ve got so much more I could run.
