Driver charged in wreck that killed South Boston woman

It’s only a “Failure to yield the right-of-way” charge, though.

Martha Wilson was charged with failure to yield the right-of-way in the wreck that injured Alice Adkins and killed her mother, Violet Kates. The wreck was at the intersection of 360 and Kentuck Rd. on Saturday.

Virginia State Police officials said Martha Sue Wilson has been charged in the wreck at the intersection of Old Richmond Road and Kentuck Road in Pittsylvania County. Wilson’s Grand Am drove through the intersection and struck a Mazda Protégé at 11:20 a.m. Saturday.

The wreck killed Alice Kates Adkins, 73, of Danville, and Violet Lines Kates, 91, of South Boston.

Adkins was pronounced dead at the scene. Kates was sent to Danville Regional Medical Center, where she died at 1:03 p.m.
