When we talked about this last, I had an issue with the Halifax County School Board not making the entire agenda packet available to the public.
Let’s go to the next chapter of this story…
Based on a conversation that I’ve had with the Virginia Coalition for Open Government, I’ve sent the following email to the clerk of the Halifax County School Board.
Pursuant to § 2.2-3707 – Section F of the Virginia Freedom of Information Act which states “At least one copy of all agenda packets and, unless exempt, all materials furnished to members of a public body for a meeting shall be made available for public inspection at the same time such documents are furnished to the members of the public body.”, I am requesting that the School Board Policy that you have referenced be immediately changed to reflect compliance with this section of the law.
To clarify, any attachments that are not declared exempt should be made available to the public at the time that the agenda and meeting packets are made available to the board members.
Please reply to this email with your decision and the School Board’s decision to exercise compliance with the referenced part of the Virginia Freedom of Information Act.
