A drunk driver crashes his new truck into the Dan River. He’s lucky that a police officer noticed the guard rail damage.
From a Danville Police Dept. press release
Around 3:00 AM, Corporal T.J. Hawkins noticed damage to the guardrail near the intersection on Memorial Dr. & Primrose Lane. After checking it out, he found that a 2009 Nissan Titan pickup had lost control, hit the guardrail and went into the river. James Robert Jefferies (22), the driver of the truck was also in the river and was rescued by the officers. His rescue didn’t last long, as he was charged with DWI.
Jefferies had injuries and was taken to the hospital by the Danville Life Saving Crew but was unable to tell authorities if any passengers were in the truck. The DLSC Dive Team searched the river and they didn’t find anybody. Damage to the truck was estimated at $25,000.
