Email forwarding is bad enough. Text message forwarding is even worse. How much worse? The Danville Police Department issued a statement about the latest rumor.
I got this forwarded to me a few times tonight and immediately deleted it. Too bad others didn’t.
From the Danville Police Department…
SUBJECT: The Danville Police Department has not issued an Amber Alert.
During the late afternoon and evening hours of 07-14-09, the Danville Police Department received numerous calls concerning an Amber Alert message that many people received on their cell phones. The text of the message is “Amber alert 3 year old girl taken by a man in Danville driving a new silver truck keep it going so they can find her” A tag number was also in the text message.
The Danville Police Department has not issued or requested that an Amber Alert be issued. The Danville Police Department has not had a complaint concerning a missing 3 year old girl.
I’m just waiting for the first person to say “Well, it COULD be true so I’m forwarding it to everybody.” Argh!
Well, it could be true…. Nah, just messing with yer mind SC. I think in this case, common sense should prevail. A call to the local police would be warranted to see if said Amber alert was really issued before people go racking up unnecessary txt messages. However, as someone once observed, “Common sense ain’t so common anymore.”
