Halifax County mailbox vandalism reported.

If I ever caught them trying to smash my mailbox, I’d find a new use for the baseball bat…

The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office reports that lots of mailboxes were struck with some type of blunt object (like a baseball bat) on Wednesday night. Areas impacted were Buckshoal Rd, Hitesburg Church Rd., Hudson Rd. & Aaron’s Creek Rd. Jeff Burton is the investigating deputy.

If you have any information about these vandalisms, you’re asked to call the Halifax County Central Dispatch at 434-476-3334.

    A Ziplock baggie filled with the brightest colored house paint you can find works wonders. Place it in the mailbox right at the front, when the wanna-be thugs whack your box, paint goes everywhere. Look for the car, and possibly the kid covered with paint, it works, trust me. Just get the paint out in the mornings and leave it in a cool spot during the day. Oh use enamel or urethane, they don’t wash off at the carwash like latex. :}

    Another fun way to screw with mailbox vandals:

    1 – Buy 2 similarly shaped rural mailboxes, except one is large and one is small.

    2- Remove the door from the small one.

    3 – Place the large mailbox on the floor, with the door facing upward.

    4 – put the small mailbox (sans door) inside the large mailbox. Make a structure from popsicle sticks, cardboard, etc. that centers the small mailbox inside the large mailbox. The opening of the small mailbox should be aligned with the opening of the large mailbox, but make sure the large mailbox door will still close.

    5 – Pour concrete in the cavity between the two mailboxes. Let it dry thoroughly.

    6 – Mount the 30 lb. mailbox on a sturdy structure.

    7 – Look for shards of broken baseball bat in front of your slighly dented mailbox.
