The fact that the person should have known all about gun safety and should have been more responsible makes it worse.
Around 2:37 PM, Danville Police got a call to Libby Hill restaurant on Riverside Dr. about somebody being shot. Officers learned that a handgun accidentally discharged in the dining room. The bullet struck the tile floor and fragmented, with three customers in the restaurant being hit by the fragments. Those three people were taken to Danville Regional Medical Center and are being treated for their injuries (non-life threatening).
John Martin Jr. (73) is the gun owner and is a retired lieutenant from the DPD. The weapon was tucked in his waistband. Martin retired over twenty years ago and had over thirty-two years of service. Any charges are on hold based on the outcome of the investigation which is in progress as of now.
We’ll have updates on this story as it develops.
He’s been told to keep that bullet in his pocket I don’t know how many times!
I knew John Martin when he was a police detective. He is retired now and is 73yrs. old. He has NO business taking a loaded gun around with him, much less in a restaurant!
