Tuesday was a very quiet and non-eventful City Council meeting… until Adam Tomer’s turn to speak in the around-the-horn comment section at the end. He talked about LifePoint, Inc. (the owners of Danville Regional Medical Center) and the way that they have failed to live up to their word for open-door communication.
Tomer said that since no one from LifePoint has returned to a City Council meeting and that the company has ignored two letters from City Council, he has “grave concerns” about the communication line between LifePoint and the citizens. Tomer went on to say that health care was a major issue when it came to recruiting new business prospects and that the lack of communication with LifePoint was not helping in that aspect.
After the meeting, I asked Tomer about these letters from City Council. He was very helpful and was able to supply these letters that we’re now posting in their entirety.
You can see these letters by clicking this link. WARNING: PDF file, over 2 MB.
This file contains both cover letters from the Mayor and ten pages of questions from Council and the community.
SouthsideCentral will try and get a statement from DRMC’s CEO tomorrow.
I found it very interesting that current employees were made to watch a “video” and were told from the CEO, that if any negative comments were heard coming from an employee, they would be fired on the spot. The person who told me this, continued to look over their shoulder as if there was going to be a hit man nearby. This community needs this hospital. I also was told that the interim ED Director cares more about Joint Commission coming than patient care. I understand that Joint Commission is important but come on folks, more important than patient care!?
