Our friend, Barry Tuck, attended tonight’s candlelight vigil in Halifax. It’s a time for somber remembrance and eternal vigilance.
The event was sponsored by the Halifax County Victim Witness Program and DOVES. October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Opening remarks were made by Sharron Garrett, Victim Witness Program. Rev. Don Pizzeck of Mt. Laurel Methodist Church read the invocation. Kim White, Halifax County’s Commonwealth’s Attorney, was the featured speaker. Poems and testimonies were read, candles were lit and balloons were released to signify the event.
Barry took these photos from the event:
I was having dinner at Molasses Grill and saw the candles and folks, then found out what it was. It was moving to see all those folks out there and all the candles…and it looked like there were banners or something to that effect, perhaps with names of ones being remmebered? not sure….it was impressive to see.
The “banners” were actually t-shirts that kids, survivors, and supporters had made. I should have gotten more pictures, but the t-shirts had stuff on the like “STOP CHILD ABUSE”.
