Happy Trails, B. Dalton Bookstore!

Barnes & Noble is getting rid of the last stores that have the B. Dalton name. Kiss another store in Piedmont Mall goodbye.

One of the few original stores in Piedmont Mall will be going out of business after the holiday season. B. Dalton is now a part of Barnes & Noble, but B&N isn’t interested in keeping a relatively small store open in a mall. They’re looking for big-box types of superstores… that being said, the ex-Office Depot space is available across the road, and I’ve heard that there are a few retail spaces still vacant over in Coleman Marketplace.

Does Danville have what it takes to keep a big-box bookstore in business?

Yet another reason for Halifaxians to go to Lynchburg or Durham instead of Danville for shopping.

Danville council has approached B&N every year for the past 5 to put in a superstore. The city has been turned down each time due to the lower literacy rate of the city then the corporate policy allows.
