14th District House Race – Update #2

Last Update: 14th District House Race – Update #1

It’s a strange political season when a city’s Sheriff’s and Commonwealth Attorney’s election get more attention than the House of Delegates’ one does.

Thoughts: Incumbent Danny Marshall is facing challenger Seward Anderson in a race that’s much different than 2 years ago. Marshall squeaked by in an ugly race that was paid for by outside money.

This year, Marshall has pretty much ignored Anderson’s campaign. The candidates had a debate the past week but nothing much came out of it. Anderson has gone to direct mail advertisements (one of which was quite sleazy), while Marshall has done a direct mailing that touts his achievements and has a local TV ad in place.

With 16 days to go, Marshall seems to have a comfortable lead (as shown by Anderson’s negative attacks). Marshall should be looking to run the clock out while Anderson has to get his name out to have a chance. Anderson’s signs are a basic blue saying “Seward – Delegate”, and I’m not sure that a lot of people even put that together into his campaign. I do have one pet peeve about Anderson’s campaign office that’s located in downtown Danville. Spend the $100 needed to cover up the “Drastic Designs” sign from the previous out-of-business tenant. Do something to at least get your name out to people that see your building. Small things like that help get the candidate’s name out.

Fun random fact: What Danville City Council members are donating to these campaigns? Gary Miller has donated $500 to Anderson’s campaign, while Buddy Rawley & Fred Shanks have donated $200 each to Marshall’s campaign.

Current vote prediction: Marshall 56% – Anderson 44%

OddsMakers of victory: Marshall 90%

Seward is just not a very good candidate. He had a bad record on city council and when an opening came up after he had lost a campaign for reelection, the rest of council didn’t want him back. Wonder why

Although I tend to lean DEM I don’t think Seward will be getting my vote. Don’t believe he is the representation I need. Voting for Marshall up in the air but no SEWARD but at any rate…

    MIKE MONDUL FOR SHERIFF!
