Danville City Councilman Adam Tomer was the biggest opponent of using taxpayer money for the Coleman Marketplace shopping center and now he’s on the trail of a mysterious unapproved $484,000 payment to the developer.
Tomer calls for probe of incentive money for Coleman MarketPlace
Some of the Danville City Council members want this issue to be addressed as an item in their next work session, but Tomer remains steadfast in wanting his questions answered. The city manager has already said that the extra payment was against city policy & procedure. The previous city manager, Jerry Gwaltney, authorized the payment and has been a consultant to North American Properties, the owner of the shopping center.
This is going to be interesting.
How does one go about getting an inside payment from Danville like this one? That $500k would replace my pitiful income quite nicely.
WOW…I bet if they dig further there will be more Danville taxpayer money unaccounted for. Get to the bottom of it Toomer. I too was amazed not one other councilman commented on this finding after Lacey submitted his report. MR COUNCILMAN/Woman are you reading your reports? Nothing against dogs, dog owner myself, I would have much perferred to hear more about 484,000 than chaining dogs. If you need some topics of discussion, I am pretty sure the fine citizens and employees of Danville could fill the agenda Mr/Ms Council member.
I agree, the council needs to look into where exactly the city money is going. The city has spent so much money to attract businesses here and yet where are the jobs? Why is the city dishing money out and getting next to nothing in return? I know the economy took a down turn so who could foresee losing so many jobs but if these companies aren’t delivering the jobs then the city should get back it’s money!
And after we look at that, we need to look at the TOURISM department. Who puts on a city festival for 400 people that has 80 vendors selling alcohol for six hours? Do the math. And They get the first 36 on. with price of addmission. The explaination Rosalees assistant gave was almost frightening, the way to attract “young professionals” is to ply them with alcohol. Really? Isn’t this the same person who thought it would bring tourists to Danville if she took a cruise up the eastern seaboard on the city’s money. This city is leaking money all over the place, and it seems some of it ends up in the pockets of their friends and their own lavish lifestyles.
