So, what happened at that Sierra Club meeting?

You know, the one we talked about yesterday? Let’s talk about it in the dreaded famous Random Thoughts format.

Let’s get to it.

  • I was very surprised at the number of people that turned out. For short notice, having 25-30 attendees is a good sign.
  • It was a pleasure meeting Drew (from Dem Bones) and Max (from 220 South). They’re very good writers and just as nice in person.
  • I don’t give a damn about the politics behind this bill, it just makes sense for this area. Bio-energy has a great economic potential for Southside.
  • Bernard Baker made a great point. Writing a “letter to the editor” is useless unless you do it personally. Any good editor will throw a canned form letter in the trash can.
  • I hope that Trieste Lockwood also works on Halifax County for support, because bio-energy could be just as important to that part of Southside.
  • Most people have no idea about Danville’s Institute for Advanced Learning & Research and the work they’re doing on genetically engineering potential bio-energy plants.
  • Most people also have no idea with the Clean Energy Act is and the potential that it has for the regional economy. If you educate the public on those aspects, people should get behind the efforts.
  • Although it’s good that they’re thanking Tom Perriello for his support of this bill, Tom Perriello shouldn’t be the focus of this group’s actions. The Clean Energy Act should trump any political agenda.

All in all, I learned some things about the Clean Energy initiative, I learned more about the cross-section of people that showed up for this meeting. Let’s see if this progress continues.
