Back in March, we told you that Lynchburg got grant money for a tank on wheels. Now it looks like Danville’s in the market for one. Ridiculous.
Danville company hopes grant would help business
Yes, it’s a Danville company and I wish them great business success in building these armored vehicles. I hope that they grow to employ lots of people. That being said, Danville doesn’t need one of these vehicles. If anything, one of these types of vehicles could be shared by multiple agencies over a multi-county area and deplaoyed when the time comes to use it (whenever in the hell that would be).
But hey! It’s grant money! It’s not like Danville and Lynchburg are spending taxpayers money, right? Unfortunately, lots of people say that and don’t realize that the money is coming from somewhere. If that $319,000 wasn’t earmarked for the “war on terrorism”, it could be the budget money that would give the city employees a small raise for the first time in two years. But nope, the state hands out over $4.9 million dollars for the ludicrous stretch of “fighting crime and other terrorist activities” with a friggin’ mini-tank. I don’t blame Danville or Lynchburg for applying for and winning these grants. I don’t blame Armet Armored Vehicles for building them. I blame the government for throwing out grant money like this. I’m just waiting for the first person to come in and say “but you never know when you’re going to need a vehicle like this” because it’s that sheep mentality of people who think we actually need to spend obnoxious amounts of money to fight a threat that simply isn’t there, just because it could maybe possibly be there one day. BOO! AIIIIEEEEE WE NEED TO BUY A TANK!
$319,000 of taxpayers’ money could go to a lot better things then an armored vehicle in the name of crime fighting.

WTF? This is such a waste of taxpayer funds.
I agree whole heartily with your take on this “sheep mentality.
While they are at it, why not apply for a aegis missile defense system. Because ya just never know when ya might need it.
