Lots of people have been to Roanoke’s City Market building. It’s a beautiful building with some pretty good restaurants there… but things are about to change. Here’s the latest in the ongoing saga.
City to offer enticement for vendors to return to City Market Building
Any plan to close the Market building for nine months is stupid enough on its own because brand new buildings can be built in much less time. I can’t blame any of the restaurants in the building for feeling that the city has let them down with this plan, and this $20,000 “incentive” to come back is a drop in the bucket to any business.
Roanoke has totally botched this plan, and it’s not the first time. Back in 2008, the Market building was shut down by the Health Department for rodent infestation for 2 weeks.
I don’t expect to see “Burger in the Square” back for the re-opening of the Market building, nor do I expect any of the restaurants to return. Why should they?
