QuickHits! (5/8/12)

I’ve got the Hits and you want them Quick! Let’s make it happen.

#1 :  Whatever faith I had in the city’s budget process is eroding quickly. Mystery Millions magically appearing make me wonder how the city really operates.

#2 : How to get $2.1 million dollars and never have to pay it back: Threaten to close a school, ask for a “loan” to stop the closure, then inflate your budget for the next 4 years.  Cut those inflated expenses that you knew were ridiculous in the first place and call those cuts “reductions to pay the loan off”. You win. The taxpayers lose, but you win.

#3 : Heard on the street from multiple reliable sources: America’s Best Optical to locate in Coleman Marketplace.

#4 : Best steak restaurant in the region? Yanceyville’s “Steaks On The Square”. Now Danville gets their second location and it will be worth the wait.

#5 : it’s refreshing to see state elected officials who visit Southside regularly. That’s in direct contrast with Jim Webb, who doesn’t even seem to know where Danville is. Last time he was here for a business opening, he looked like he was ready to leave three minutes later.

That’s enough QuickHits! for today. Comments are welcome below!

#1: I don’t believe that people will swallow the “forgotten” announcement. What was already a very difficult situation is now complicated by trust issues.

#2: Give the School Board credit in playing their best hand. have to worry about. Closing a school should never be taken lightly. Unfortunately, when you say you are closing “the” one that saves exactly what you need you seem to have taken it lightly.

#5: Yes, Bruce it is refreshing when state elected officials come to town on a regular bases. Mark Warner is one who in my mind put Danville on the map of places to visit while in office (he will tell you you practically lived here. Tim Kaine followed his lead by coming often. Tom Perriello took it to a higher level by spending more time in his district (which is huge) than any other congressman that I can remember.
