Fonzie may be famous for his Thumbs!, but we know how to use our Thumbs! better…
Up!s are good, Down!s are bad. What have we got for this edition?
- Thumbs UP! to the amazing number of great festivals that the SouthsideCentral region has this time of year. After this year’s run is over, we’ll have a SouthsideCentral article rating them, but let’s enjoy them all before then. This weekend, we’ve got the South Boston Harvest Festival & Danville’s Old ’97 Rail Days. Don’t miss either of them!
- Belated Thumbs UP! to Sherman Saunders for clearly reminding this new “Danville United” race relations coalition that they have no regulatory power now and will never have it. Danville City Council also gets Thumbs UP! for establishing that ground rule. This new coalition has to be at least equal in effectiveness as the Coalition for a Safe Danville (and that means completely useless), so giving this group any kind of powers would be a horrible idea.
- Thumbs DOWN! to 60th District candidate Jasper Hendricks for picking up a DUI charge recently… or is that Thumbs UP! for finally getting some name recognition? Nah, it’s Thumbs DOWN! for the serious criminal charge. Do we see James Edmunds already popping the victory champagne? If we do, he should have popped it open two months ago…
- Finally, we’ll move into the political races for a “What Are They Thinking?” mild Thumbs DOWN! to “Tracy Quackenbush Martin For Commonwealth Attorney” (too damn long of a name to type so it’ll be TQMFCA from now on…) for “sponsoring” Sunday night’s Dane Ferguson concert in South Boston’s Constitution Square”. If a political campaign sponsors an event this close to the election, it should be a free to the public thing and definitely not a $15 admission charge. If this concert was designed as a campaign fundraiser, TQMFCA should clearly state that but still offer it out to the public. Dane Ferguson’s a good performer, but not worth low-end Prizery prices for something like this. There’s no political fallout from something as minor as this, and I’m chalking it up to a TQMFCA’s first campaign wanting to get their name out.
That’s our Thumbs! for this edition. Feel free to use that comment box below…
