The Halifax County Industrial Development Authority is only allowed to borrow $6,000,000 for the rest of the year. I’m here to tell you that this will definitely not be a problem in 2014. In other news, furniture coating isn’t really a hot and fabulous attraction. Who knew?
Halifax County IDA signs off on loans for office renovations
Let me get this straight. The Halifax County Industrial Development Authority is borrowing the money for Halifax County government’s construction and renovation costs? To me, that seems to resemble somebody getting the electricity put in their cousin’s name because they are going to have to fork out a high deposit because their credit is horrible.
Oh well, I’m understanding that the Halifax County IDA’s credit is excellent. Face it, they haven’t had to borrow money in a long time because they haven’t announced any big industry/job deals since November 2011 (and that was Faneuil… ’nuff said). The Daystrom plant site Green View Something Industrial Blah Blah Park is ready to go for a new industry waiting for more Free Government Money to finish getting that building restored from years of neglect. I bet that six millllllllllllion dollars will last the Halifax County IDA at least through the year 2315 based of their current batting average.
So what do you do when you haven’t hit a homerun (Editor’s Note: The landing of Faneuil was ruled “reached base on an error” instead of a homerun by the official scorer) since November 2011? You got it. Hire a secretary. Wait, what? This will free up the “operations manager” so that she can watch the security cameras the entire day. Really? You need a secretary for the 2.6 visitors per week to the Industrial Development Authority’s office? I guess now that Patsy Vaughan’s retired that the IDA has to somehow spend her previously allotted salary in the budget or else it will be cut out of next year’s funding. Hell, they could just go up on the price for the Mid-Atlantic Broadband “Exclusive For Us Only And Not You Common People” brand Parking Spaces. MBC’s got the money to pay for it and that would pay for the new secretary.
Anyway, let’s get to the close of business. Dr. Doug’s “Center for Coating and Application Research and Education” appears to be as popular as Dr. Carole’s “Modeling & Simulation Center of Excellence” was… which is to say “not one damned bit”. It seems that the new technologies of coating furniture is as interesting as watching paint dry. Or watching varnish dry. Or a can of ScotchGard. Maybe it’s like that “undercoating protection” that costs $2500 on a new car. Anyway, Dr. Doug’s going back to the drawing board (or coatings board) to try to put some WOW into their cans of Rustoleum or redwood deck stain or whatever they do there. I’m sure that will work out just fine. Not.
If you think I’m being too hard on the Halifax County Industrial Development Authority, at least I do have one extremely positive thing to say about them. They didn’t try to recruit that Web Parts company that just fleeced Danville out of tons-o-cash.
