Here’s the recap of Danville’s election night returns…
6:40 PM – Good seats very much available in City Council chambers to watch the results come in.
6:50 PM – High-tech way to block the projector while the numbers are entered. Sheesh.
7:12 PM – Gibson precinct goes to the traditional black voting bloc. Schoolfield and Bonner come in. Glaise surprisingly strong in 4th place. Incumbents are strong. School board is strong Campbell and Gould.
7:25 PM – More precincts coming in. Forest Hills strong for incumbents and Buckner. Ballou Park and Salvation Army precincts in with no surprises. We’re close to making projections.
7:30 PM – SouthsideCentral projects that Philip Campbell will be re-elected to the Danville School Board. We also project John Gilstrap, Alonzo Jones and Gary Miller will be re-elected to Danville City Council.
7:40 PM – SouthsideCentral projects that Steven Gould will be elected to the Danville School Board.
7:45 PM – Most precincts in, but conferencing at the clerk of court’s table is delaying the numbers from being announced.
8:00 PM – Still conferencing at the Clerk’s table. 15 of 18 precincts reported, only 6 announced. Gah!
8:03 PM – Gerald Gibson adds 2 precincts. 8 on the board, but 17 have reported. Huh?
8:16 PM – SouthsideCentral projects that James Buckner will be elected to Danville City Council.
8:35 PM – More numbers coming in. Final School Board seat too close to call. City Council projections are complete. All precincts have reported, waiting on the announcements.
8:45 PM – Sharon Dones will take the final School Board seat and we’re done!
so let me get this straight – you can be out of office for 15 or so years and you can still use “RE-ELECT” on your campaign posters?????????????????????? wtf

Gary Miller – man i do not get this one.
Mr. Buckner appears to be a credible choice for the residents of Danville. To me, that’s the only real question of the day — was it going to be Witter or Buckner? I hope Ms. Witter learns from this process and comes back stronger in two years, and I hope Mr. Buckner does a great job. Congratulations to him.
I am glad Mark Aron saw fit to carry it on the city tv and online.. Nothing to watch on cable.
