We’re debuting a quickie type of article today. If you remember Larry King’s column from USA Today, this feature will sort of be like that. And if you do remember that, then you’re old. Anything’s fair game. News, sports, weather, opinion, local, regional, world… it’s just a collection of RandomThoughts. Let’s get it started.
Here’s my RandomThoughts for Thursday, May 22nd.
- There’s something seriously messed up with that fatal wreck at South Boston’s Walmart. SUV’s don’t normally fly through the parking lot, bounce of two cars, hit a light pole and flip over. How bizarre.
- David Hoffman’s Riverwalk Trail stories in the Danville Register & Bee are amazingly wonderful to read.
- Martinsville Speedway hosts the region’s best July 4th celebration and this year’s is going to be even bigger. It’ll be held on Thursday, July 3rd (huh?) and will open up at 3PM, an hour earlier than last year. It’s definitely the place to be, and it’s all free to the public.
- I have no idea how Danville’s Old Dutch Supermarkets have stayed in business this long. I can handle the limited selection but if something you want isn’t on sale, the regular prices are way higher than any other grocery store in town.
- 39 days until you can get a watermelon milkshake from Cookout, but who’s counting?
- Until the past weekend, I didn’t know the old Ballou Park post office is now a Masonic Lodge. It looks quite creepy.
- Boom goes the old JC Penney outlet store in Martinsville’s Liberty Fair Mall. Boom goes Liberty Fair Mall after that.
And that’s your RandomThoughts of the day!
I think people like getting meat at Old Dutch, and they are also located in places where a decent number of folks without cars can get to. I think that’s how they survive.
Is Random Thoughts replacing Quick Hits?
QuickHits will be more link-based things that aren’t big enough for a full story.
