I’ve been lying to you. Some of those Thoughts can be slightly less than Random. Heh.
Don’t get worried, I’ve still got a Big Board for them…
- The Greensboro News & Record is implementing a rather interesting idea. They’re going to get 3 “civilians” to add to their editorial board. I think it’s a great idea to get other viewpoints… do you think Steve Kaylor & Robert Benson would ever do the same for the Danville Register & Bee? The same company does own both newspapers.
- So whatever happened to that “claim” of people getting “arsenic blisters” from the Dan River? Nothing. Nothing at all to it, but it did show more of the ignorance and hysteria that is still out there. My head exploded when I read one person trying to claim that coal ash was radioactive.
- The Harvest Jubilee Concert Series started this past Friday night with Billy Currington in concert at the Carrington Pavilion. I’ve heard very little feedback from anybody that went. Was there any other local media coverage about it? Don’t look at me. Not my style.
- I’m looking forward to the Danville Braves minor league baseball season this year. Their first home game is Wednesday night at Dan Daniel Park.
- Schools are starting on August 11th? Way to hit those 90 degree days and make everybody sweaty and miserable to start the school year!
- Am I really hearing some rumblings about somebody new for the mayor’s seat in Danville? I’m not surprised nor am I displeased with this… if it’s true. Looks like we’ve got some investigation to do this week.
- You’re old when you remember Mason’s department store in Danville. I remember Mason’s department store in Danville.
I’m old. I can live with that. That’s my RandomThoughts! for the day. More coming up on SouthsideCentral!
Could be interesting to see what happens at the next council meeting. I too remember masons . The Jaycees use to take the kids from Hughes home and faith home there during Christmas to shop.
I remember Masons and Burger Chef. And school starting in Aug is great. We are out in May and when the kids are out for Christmas they dont have exams hanging over their heads.
On idea of “civilians” being placed on DRB editorial board: A few years ago, the paper did launch the idea and asked interested individuals to apply. I know that some did apply but I never read any more about it–in keeping with the chronic inconsistency of everything at DRB.
I never heard of a “Masons.” Being from Lynchburg I never went to Danville. Was Masons a chain?
I was corrected by email. It was “Mason’s” but they never used an apostrophe on the sign. If you go to the dead Danville Plaza shopping center and look at the old Value City location, you’ll see six columns. Each had a letter M-A-S-O-N-S. Wen the Dan River Grand Prix was there, they cleared the windows out and you can see what’s left of Mason’s classic signage for their snack bar. It was a chain and folded as abruptly as Value City did later.
