You have been warned. RandomThoughts are now here. Proceed with caution.
Small Boards don’t cut it. Big Boards all the way.
- Don’t laugh at me. I went to Kickback Jack’s for the first time yesterday. A bit of sensory overload at first but it’s a very nice place. Good service, the expected sports bar kind of food, and more TV’s than I thought possible. If we did a restaurant review on the place, it would be safely in the “A” range.
- On the other hand, I went to Ham’s last week. Quite the opposite impression there. It looks rundown and heading for Happy Trails Land soon. Ugh.
- The house that my grandmother used to live in on Jefferson St. is now a boarded-up example of blight. It hurt to see that. Serious hurt.
- Yoder’s Country Market just before you get to Yanceyville is a Hidden Treasure.
- Wasn’t the Toys-R-Us in Danville supposed to be closing like 20 years ago?
- Gotta say that the Danville Mall’s new video board looks awesome.
- Food for today? DellAnno’s Pizza Kitchen before the school board meeting.
- We trade out a tank museum in Danville for a mortuary museum in Chatham. Well, anything for tourism.
We’re out of RandomThoughts! We’ll see you Danville’s first ever LIVE! school board meeting tonight.
At some point the Danville Toys R Us and KMart will close. There will be the usual “remember when” and “isn’t that a shame” stories. But the real story won’t be the closing. The real story will be that both survived for so long. I think the Danville KMart has been “rumored” to close for a good 20 years as well! ha ha
I have a gut feeling we will lose the Sears, not the KMart. If it goes the other way, it’s a testament to the new ownership of the mall pulling it off.
Kickback Jack’s is off my lunch menu because my boss is very mayo averse and they will not leave sauces out of things. They are the worst in town about not respecting requests like that.
Yoder’s had a location on Mt. Cross for about five minutes. It was outstanding, but frankly I got a bit irked at them for how they opened and then ditched so quickly. I wish they’d come make another run at it. There’s definitely a void they could fill.
I, too, hope it is Sears and not KMart for Danville’s sake. To be honest, a little reported aspect of the City is the condition of Riverside. If KMart went (along with Ham’s)….you will have seen a pretty massive deterioration of one of the City’s major thoroughfares. While I think the development of Piedmont/Mt. Cross has been a positive for the area (dense areas of retail tend to increase traffic counts which make more stores/restaurants more likely to locate in the area…perhaps even one of your burrito chains will locate there!), I think it has resulted in a certain “shabbiness” of Riverside. Obviously there is “churn” in any free market economy. But I think it looks bad for the City of Danville that it’s main east/west Highway (58/Riverside) is starting to look long in the tooth.
I have a random thought. Just read where Neal Morris will head up the IDA. Article mentioned C G Hairston was vice president. I question how he can be on a board when he is delinquent on 21 real estate properties in the city. There is a question on the application for being a member of a board that specifically asks if you are delinquent on any taxes owed to the city. I would think this would disqualify him for being considered for any member of a board for the city. Guess not!!!
I’ll check that out.
DANVILLE NEEDS A CHIPOTLE!!!
