Let’s take a quick look at what’s on tap for tonight’s Danville School Board meeting. SouthsideCentral will be covering the meeting LIVE!
Tonight’s meeting will start at 6 PM. Here’s what is on the agenda…
- All of the procedural things, of course.
- The approval of disciplinary actions.
- The bullying prevention month and school bus safety week resolutions will be passed.
- Schoolfield Elementary will be recognized for moving out of the “Focus School” status.
- Public comments
- Terri Hall will give a report from the budget committee.
- Kathy Osborne will talk about a partnership with DCC’s precision machining program.
- Mona Whittle will give an update from Human Relations.
- Dave Cochran will update on safety and security.
- Coray Davis from Virginia State University updates the board on the Academy of Engineering and Technology Program
- Mona Whittle will get back up and give the personnel recommendations. New hires, transfers, resignations, etc.
- Cheryl Bryant will explain the new “Restraint and Seclusion of Students” policy and the board will vote on it.
- The around the horn session wraps up the open part of the meeting.
After that, it’s a recess and then two students will have disciplinary appeals to the school board in a closed session.

So here we go with precision machining…. Again. Please let me know who in the Danville area is hiring precision machinest ? I can tell you….. No one. Yet here we go throwing eggs into a basket with no bottom.
William Gentry’s tire mold place in the old Corning plant?
Less then 10 machinest positions. Most of the equipment is automated
Gentry pulled the wool over the city getting a grant for jobs. All it did was to pay for him to move his business to the corning building and he hired 4 new people. Any new job is a good job.
Danville had lost 900 jobs in the last year. Grant for over 2,000 have been passed out on that same time period. Is that money well spent? And now the city is on the hook to pay lots of it back.
The city has the worst leadership in years and has no sense of direction. It wanders aimlessly.
