A Danville City School student has a case of viral meningitis. I’ve spoken to the director of the local health departments and he said there’s no need for alarm.
Here’s the letter that went home with all students today…
I spoke with Dr. Matthew Arroyo, director of the local Virginia Department of Health offices here, and he said it’s the first case of viral meningitis that he can remember in his two years of working here. He also said that viral meningitis is extremely difficult to spread, so there’s really no danger of transmission.
Bottom line: This infection has to be reported to the state, so Danville Public Schools and the Virginia Department of Health just wanted to let everyone know what’s going on.

What they’re saying is your kid has probably an equal chance of getting this as you do of catching Ebola on your next domestic flight.
