SouthsideCentral is LIVE! at City Hall for tonight’s Danville City Council meeting and we’ve got the only LIVE! coverage. Be sure to refresh this page for the latest photos, commentary and happenings. We’ll clean up the article in the editing process when we get home.
Our LIVE! coverage will begin around 6:50PM.
We’re underway. Buddy Rawley leads the prayer and Pledge of Allegiance, and we’re on to the public comment section. Gracie Mays is here to present the Gracie Cup for the annual charity game between the city’s police and sheriff departments and Pittsylvania County’s sheriff’s .
On to business. We don’t have much on tonight’s agenda and none of it is controversial. We have an appropriation for bond proceeds, the Comprehensive Services act program is funded and appointments to boards & commissions. The city sells a small vacant lot. Other items for first reading. We’re done with regular business. Yeah, that quick.
Around the horn time. Clarke Whitfield congratulates GW on their successful football season. James Buckner concurs and talks about natural gas possibly being used for city vehicles. The school board is considering this for school buses. Larry Campbell recognizes a student group from Tunstall high school, and mentions the In God We Trust motto. John Gilstrap congratulates the GWHS ACE team. Lee Vogler mentions the new historical portrait in the entrance to Council chambers. The Christmas Parade is on for Saturday, December 13th.
Let’s get some bonus photos to wrap this article up…
And there you go. We’ll do a BreakDown of this meeting later in the week and we’ll follow up with some items talked about in the work session.

I was going to give a $100 bill to the person who posted the best comment on this topic, but since it carried thi same slogan, I know you would not accept it Lee. Sux to be you.
You are correct that I do prefer direct deposit and debit card.
On the list of stuff I’d change based on the 1st Amendment, the motto is pretty much at the bottom of the list. I’d much rather remove “under God”, the anti-communism religion hugging hysterics from the McCarthy era, from our Pledge.
The portrait is of George Craghead Corbin who served as 2nd Mayor of Neapolis from 1892-1894/5.
