We’re only going back three months in the SouthsideCentral time machine trip. Hey, Marcus Hargrave?
Let’s go back to September 25, 2014…
Why the YMCA?
This letter was published on Thursday, September 25th so it had to been written earlier than that. Thursday, September 25th is also conveniently when the South Boston YMCA had a board meeting with McCubbin & Friends in the audience. As the article said…
Y board members and Executive Director Marcus Hargrave reacted to the group’s presence with a mix of guarded optimism and surprise at the offers for intervention.
Guarded optimism and surprise my ass. He knew they were gunning for him and wouldn’t be satisfied until his head was hung on the wall. If he didn’t know that, this article excerpt should be a honkin’ big flashing neon sign.
Tom Stutts argued that “before you can raise money and get grants, you’ve got to have the community behind you — and you don’t.”
A conveniently timed letter to the editor where McCubbin “did not know what needs to change at our local YMCA” but then she quickly figured that out? Brilliant! My goodness! That plan came together so quickly, you’d think that McCubbin & Friends had talked about it and plotted Hargrave’s ouster in advance!
Clearly, it was “a cost-cutting measure”. Clearly. Clearly, I say. Oh that’s total horsecrap, they wanted Hargrave’s ass gone from the moment this plot was hatched. If this had been a cost-cutting measure with nothing to do with their opinion of Hargrave’s performance, I’m sure they could have worked something out. They brought him into the boardroom and…
There’s Lots-More-O-Hilarity about the South Boston YMCA, but we’re ran out of time in this Time Machine trip. We’ll have more fun with this later. We’ve got more coming up on SouthsideCentral!
Might as well just call it the Halifax County/HRHS Y at this point.
Also, people who went to the now-closed DAC may recognize the “new” equipment that the SoBo Y is getting…
Maybe the Owners at DAC will have the money now to pay the people that had paid for a years membership…..so far nobody has been in touch with these Members that are owed money back.
Interesting. The YMCA board (through McCubbin) is saying “anonymous” donation. I knew it had to be the old DAC equipment as soon as I heard the story. If DAC is owing members for unused services, a court wouldn’t look too kindly on this sale/donation of assets. This plot thickens a bit.
Yup , money is owed to 56 members, rumor is they said it would be payed after Jan.31….6 Owners I believe, do You know a Good Liberal Lawyer 🙂
Not sure who made the donation but it seems like half the board members have some ties with the hospital.
