Since Tuesday night’s Danville City Council meeting was rather simple, we don’t need a BreakDown article on it. Let’s change the pace up and look at some things you wouldn’t see unless you were there.
Only on SouthsideCentral, folks!
Here’s the view from the Mayor’s seat.
This is one of the three remote-controlled cameras that Mark Aron uses to televise City Council meetings.
Here’s one advantage to being on City Council (Yes, I wiped out the name, license plate and Joe King’s signature).
Harold Garrison & Dolores Reynolds talk before the meeting starts.
Duke Energy’s Davis Montgomery is on the front row ready for his monthly update. Everybody involved in the rezoning requests sit behind him. Register & Bee reporter Trevor Metcalfe is on the back row.
Star-Tribune reporter Susan Light and Register &Bee reporter Denice Thibodeau are also their own photographers. Former mayor Miller Vernon looks on from his portrait with a look that says “What the hell is going on?”
There’s not a big crowd for tonight’s work session. On the front row, we’ve got Finance Director Michael Adkins and the audit team from Brown Edwards. IT director Inez Rodenburg and Dolores Reynolds are on the second row, with Denise Thibodeau and Harold Garrison on the third row. Arnold Hendrix joined us after I took this photo.
IT Director Inez Rodenburg tried to explain how the councilmembers’ Ipads were now obsolete and t was time to get new ones. This was a painful discussion to listen to. I shuddered when one person asked “How many Gee Bees in this Ipad?” Ugh.
And there you go… BonusCentral behind the scenes. We’ve got more coming up on SouthsideCentral!

Nice job. Enjoy your reporting.
Thanks for the kind words.
Bruce, I see a student that I know in the audience of the full meeting. Did the students speak or receive an award or is this just a random siting?
Are you talking about the young woman in the 4th photo down? If so, she stood up with the group representing Virginia Organizing.
Ah….that makes perfect sense. Thank you!!
