Let’s hop in the SouthsideCentral Time Machine and take a look at a marker from 1994 that you’ve probably driven by in the last few weeks… but you’ve never been able to stop and read it.
Danville’s Union Street Bridge was renovated in 1994 and there are markers all along the east side of the bridge. Let’s take a look at the dedication marker up close and see if you recognize some names.
20 years later, Rick Drazenovich is still Public Works Director and Kent Shelton is still the City Engineer. All of Danville City Council has changed over, with Doyle Thomas & Bill Townes having passed away.

The first vehicle to drive across the bridge after the ribbon cutting was Danville Fire’s Ladder 4. That vehicle was retired and sold a few years ago.
My 3rd great uncle was one of the original charter members for the building of Union St. Bridge; T.J. Corbin.
