Editor’s Note: Thanks to Bobby Roach, we’ve updated this article with yet another mistake on the sign. Bwahahaha!
We’re going to jump into the SouthsideCentral Time Machine and take you back to August 12th, 2002. Next stop, the Carrington Pavilion!
I can’t believe that it’s been almost 13 years since Danville’s Carrington Pavilion was completed. I’ve walked by the dedication plaque about one hundred times but I never had taken a close look at it. Let’s do that together now.
Funding came from the National Tobacco and Textile Museum, which ironically later closed because of a lack of funding. Sherman Saunders is the only 2002 member to be still on City Council (after being voted out and re-voted in). Vice Mayor Wayne Williams went on to become mayor and then bail out of Danville for another job. Jerry Gwaltney is now the head guy out at the Institute. John Gilstrap went from Parks & Recreation to retirement and then to City Council.

Update #1: Our readers are better than I am. Bobby Roach is already awesome but he’s more awesome now for pointing out that there’s another typo that’s even more glaring (and that we missed). “Twelth” should be “Twelfth”. Double oops now.
And that’s our Time Machine look back at something that I bet you’ve never taken a close look at. We’ve got more coming up on SouthsideCentral!
ah…foresight.
I’m betting the proofreader graduated from GW
