Editor’s Note: Well, that didn’t go as planned. I was tied up at another coverage event and wasn’t able to make it to City Council’s meeting until 7:30 PM. I’ll update the article on Wednesday.
We’re LIVE! at Danville City Hall for tonight’s Danville City Council meeting. Due to a scheduling conflict, I wasn’t able to make it until the end of the meeting. We’re going to turn this into a recap of what happened.
Tonight’s Big Thing is the passing of the coming year’s budget. The last sticking point was the public safety pay issue. The city has come up with the solution to give a retroactive 0.75% pay increase for public safety employees’ service time in lower ranks before they got promoted to a higher rank.
Let’s get to what happened on Tuesday night…
- Buddy Rawley does the prayer & Pledge of Allegiance.
- The budget is passed on a 9-0 vote.
- Everything from last month’s Planning Commission meeting is approved.
- The Allergease & Hybrid Vehicles Job Bust payment agreement is approved.
- The legal process of rolling over unused bond capacity is approved.
- Andrew Lester speaks in favor of a resolution to be opposed to ideas to pull water out of the Dan River at Milton and below.
