We’re LIVE! at the Danville School Board office at a special called meeting of the Danville School Board. The meeting starts at 3:30 PM. Be sure to refresh the page often for the latest photos, happenings and commentary. We’ll clean the article up when we get home tonight.
We’re underway.
Good seats still available. Heh.
The school system will end the year with around $1.4 million left over. They’re only allowed to carry over $1 million to the next fiscal year.
According to the discussion, incoming superintendent Stan Jones is asking for a new school administration instruction software package when he starts work.
Finance Director Lori Cassada says the surplus will be closer to $1.5 million. The bonus options presented are $500, $750 and $1000 for fulltime returning employees, and half those dollar amounts for parttime returning employees.
Juliet Jennings wisely suggests holding back around $175K just in case the school system needs to quickly hire up to three teachers based on needs.
Phillip Campbell says he’s firmly for the $1000 bonus. Steven Gould is leaning to the $750 level. Ed Polhamus reminds everybody that any dollar amount can be considered.
In the coming fiscal year, the school system has already put $630K in a contingency fund.
Substitute teachers are classified as “temporary” employees only if they are in a specific assignment, and not the ones called on a daily basis.
Phillip Campbell makes the motion for the $1000/$500 bonus to be payable on June 30th to returning employees. “Returning employees” is defined as an employee who has returned their signed employment document for the 2015-2016 school year as of June 22. That passes 6-0 with Renee Hughes out today.
We’re done.
A special called meeting? What up?
Say hello to Kim Roberson, 2nd row, flowered print from Sheila!
She said HELLO!
interesting the NEW superintendent already making demands and giving his wish list
YAY for the employees—their bonus. sorry lousy raises in the past. they deserve it. shame uncle sam and Virginia taxes have to get their cut.
Do cafeteria employees get to share in these bonuses??
Yes. This is for all employees.
What a joke
Do explain.
Its a quick fix. Teachers never get their step increase. If a teacher works 8 years a teacher that is hired in after 3 years of service will make a higher salary. This is just hazard pay. The schools will have their hands out soon enough to fix the football stadium instead of paying teachers fairly.
point of clarification—the bonuses will not actually come June 30th due to the time needed to process them. glad the school board is doing this
