2015 Facilities of Merit: Danville Family YMCA
Here’s the media release from the Danville Family YMCA…
We are so proud and over joyed to announce that The Danville Family YMCA is a Top Ten Facility of Merit Award Recipient. The Danville Family YMCA was featured in the June issue of Athletic Business magazine, as one of the Top 66 recreation facilities in the world. The 66 facilities that were chosen, moved on to be judged by a panel of architects who chose the top ten facilities of merit.
“To be featured in the Top 66 issue of the magazine was a great honor, so when we found out our YMCA was in the Top 10 we were amazed. With the generous support of our community, our Y has come a long way. None of this would have been possible without the support of Danville Regional Foundation and many other foundations and supporters. We are grateful to be in our beautiful new building where we are positioned to be able to change the social well-being of our community in ways we haven’t been able to before. This recognition is a great honor and we are happy to bring the spotlight to our community,” says Sarah Folmar, Chief Executive Officer of the Danville Family YMCA.
Their forward thinking and amazing passion for this community. DRF is really the one to be celebrated today. Their board and staff have a commitment that has given our community a chance to develop and be the best that we can be. We will be forever grateful to them.
The news was announced today on the publication’s website, here: It will be published in the November print issue of the magazine.
The magazine is not focused on YMCA’s alone, it is geared towards recreation facilities of all types including universities, community centers and health clubs. The feature includes pictures of the facility and a great description of how the new Danville Family YMCA incorporates the history of our location as well as how it serves as a symbol of the future for the River District in our area.
The building was designed by Collins Cooper and Carusi Architects out of Atlanta, GA.
The Danville Family YMCA is continually grateful for all of the community support that has allowed us to widen our community impact through healthy living, youth development and social responsibility in our beautiful new facility.
In celebration of this Top 10 award, our YMCA will be waving our $50 joiners fee for 10 days. The joiners fee will be waived Saturday, October 17th through Tuesday, October 25th.
You can see some photos in the article, and I want you to take another look at our PhotoCentral tour throughout the facility.
Congratulations to Danville Family YMCA executive director Sarah Folmar, her terrific team of employees and all of the people and foundations that helped to build and operate the new facility. This award proves that everybody has done a terrific job.
