Danville’s newest Hampton Inn won’t be going on Piedmont Drive after all. However, you’ll be able to see the old Hampton Inn from the new Hampton Inn.
At today’s Danville Planning Commission meeting, BW of Danville LLC got the approval for a height waiver to build the same type of 4-story Hampton Inn that we talked about in our article that we published last month.
The new location of the proposed hotel will be at 1098 Riverside Drive, the site of the current Big Sale Tobacco Warehouse. The warehouse will be flattened and the hotel will go there. The property is already zoned Highway Retail – Commercial so the only thing needed to start the construction was the height waiver (there’s a 50-foot limit in the city’s code). Mark Johnson from LE&D Professionals was at the meeting and said that the original request for the hotel location on Piedmont Place will be scrapped because the owners were able to acquire the property on Riverside Drive.
Johnson also said that the owners much preferred a Riverside Drive location anyway. He also mentioned that the previous hotel spot was being looked at by other businesses, so I’m quite sure that something will be built on that last buildable spot on Piedmont Drive. When the new Hampton Inn is ready for business, the old Hampton Inn will be rebranded under a different name. It’s the same design of the hotel as last time…
The hotel would be set back from Riverside Drive and actually be across from the Kwik-Shop on Audubon Drive.
Here’s the aerial view of the location to help you out…
The orange-bordered area is the location of the new Hampton Inn and the blue-bordered area is the location of the current Hampton Inn.
And there you go… first-reported here on SouthsideCentral! Thanks for reading, folks!
Or not reading in some cases ha ha!
