What? No QuickHits yet in the month of December? Let’s get that fixed right now by taking a look at some of the stories that have caught my eyes over the past few weeks.
The QuickHits Big Board has got cobwebs on it. Let’s clean those off and roll it out.
- A probably-drunk mother kills her 7-year old daughter in a Christmas night Alamance County wreck. The impact split the car in half.
- The Franklin County man who hanged a dummy in his front yard to intimidate his black neighbors gets six months in jail. The “Black nigger lives don’t matter. Got Rope?” sign that he put in his yard when he was out of jail on bond didn’t help his case one bit.
- The Linwood Lambert wrongful death lawsuit against the South Boston Police Department continues looking worse on the police department and the officers.
- The Harvester Performance Center proves that you can make a profit booking high-quality talent to a small arena.
- Don’t bet on that Martinsville medical school to open in the next 10 years (at least).
- The property from Appomattox County’s Lindenburg (which coincidentally rhymes with Hindenburg) Job Bust sells for $1,000,000 at foreclosure.
- South Hill’s YMCA is closing due to back taxes and bad money management.
- The Pittsylvania County teacher in the “sexting with a student” case checks himself in for psychiatric care.
- Brookneal’s police department came very close to averaging two calls for service per day in November. However, they did make three traffic stops for the month.
- Al Roberts is officially inaugurated as Southside Virginia Community College’s president 15 months after he got the job.
Whew! That’s ten reading assignments to catch you back up. We’ve got more coming up on SouthsideCentral!
In what universe would China build a company here to manufacture anything? They pay their workers around 60 cents an hour and have no OSHA or EPA responsiblities. The only person reaping any thing out of these deals are the crooks who receive the incentives to play pretend opening a manufacturing facility. Danville, Appomattox and Chesterfield have fallen prey to the Chinese and mcauliffe, just like Mississippi did before that used car salesman came to Virginia. Evidently in mcauliffe’s universe, it only matters that he gets headlines and his cohorts gets government money.
The story that’s used is that “finishing or assembling the finished project in the USA” avoids tariffs and other nasty trade-related penalties.
Go figure.
That is their story and they are sticking to it. Spent plenty of time dealing with manufacturing in both China s. They still make loads of $$ paying all that. They even buy natural resources here, ship to China, manufacture, ship back and still rake in the dollars. Tooling in USA for mass production can cost any where between $50,000. To $500,000. In China it was always less than $50,000. They run CNCs 24/7 for $5./ hr. USA about $60./hr. They are running a scam and they are very good with it.
