Danville City Council – LIVE! (2/16/16)

Editor’s Note: This article is in editing mode now. Things can and will change. I’ll let you know when the article is finished.

SouthsideCentral is LIVE! at tonight’s Danville City Council meeting. The meeting starts at 7 PM, and it should be over quickly as there are only three non-controversial items on the agenda. We’ll stick around for the work session as well. Be sure to refresh this page often for the latest photos, happening and commentary. We’ll clean the article up in the editing process and add some bonus coverage. We’ll get started around 7 PM.

We’re getting a late start because of a previous engagement that ran late and we arrived as the business session was wrapping up.

Here’s what happened in the business session on a Big Board.

  • Lee Vogler led the prayer and Pledge of Allegiance.
  • Nobody spoke in the public comment section.
  • The minutes were approved.
  • Council approved Danville Utilities to buy electricity generated from a to-be-built solar farm off of Kentuck Rd.
  • Council approved a new format for public hearings, specifying time limits for speakers.
  • Council approved the increase from 131 police officers to 135. This won’t cost additional money because the police department is very rarely at full staff.
  • In the around the horn section, all council members praised Public Works for the winter storm response, Fred Shanks & James Buckner brought up Steve Adkins’ idea for replacing the White Mill Dam, John Gilstrap pressed the need for adding police precincts where needed and Lee Vogler introduced an idea for citizens to be able to comment on Council business on the city’s website.

That’s the quick recap of the business section. Now let’s get to the work session.
