Today, Danville City Councilman Buddy Rawley issued a press release saying that he would not be running for another term in the May elections. SouthsideCentral is glad to publish his remarks in full so that our readers can read them unedited.
Again, this is from Buddy Rawley.
Citizens of Danville,
I have been a proud resident of Danville for 63 of my 65 years. This community has given me much more than I deserved, and I am so proud to be called a Danvillian.
In 2002, City Council gave me the opportunity to serve the city that I hold so dearly, when they appointed me to fulfill Charles Scott’s term when he died unexpectedly just one month after his new four-year term began. However, due to a wonderful employment opportunity in Fayetteville, NC, in September 2004, I had to resign from Council.
In 2006, I was fortunate to return to Danville; and in 2008, made a successful run for City Council after establishing my residency. I ran again in 2012 and was re-elected for four more years. I can’t tell you how much I have enjoyed serving on your City Council for 10 years, and I consider representing the citizens of Danville as the highest honor I have ever received.
The time has now come for me to decide if I will put my name forward for another four-year term, and I have not taken this decision lightly. I have considered many things, but after months of reflection, I have decided not to run for re-election to Danville City Council.
Truth be told, I would not have accomplished much in my life without my wife, Debbie, by my side. She has spent countless hours alone while I was out trying to make a difference in the community that I love. It is time for me to give her the attention she truly deserves.
I want to sincerely thank the citizens of Danville for the opportunities given to me and for letting me represent you for a decade on Danville City Council. Personally, it has been a very rewarding 10 years.
Thank you Danville!!!
Buddy Rawley
What a loss for Danville! Buddy is one of the few who always made sense. He will be missed.
Sad…he was a rock.
I appreciate his service to our community and hope that he and his wife enjoy their additional “free” time together. I know that he will remain active in our community.
no more outbursts and temper tantrums—his bad choice of word at last meeting costed him unless mayor was joking.
Please translate the above.
he “cussed” at last council meeting. said an expletive. a bad word. mayor said that would cost him. watch the meeting on river city tv. you can see what i mean for yourself. he has lost his temper and cool at meetings. not calm as some councilmen.
