Here at SouthsideCentral, we pride ourselves on going to all kinds of meetings that a lot of people never attend. In this PhotoCentral series, we’re going to show you photos and happenings from last week’s Danville Republican Committee meeting. We’re non-partisan, so we’ll be glad to go and cover the Danville Democratic Committee’s meetings (if we ever get invited).
We’re at the upstairs banquet rooms at Danville’s Mary’s Diner. Let’s get started!
Although the Danville Republican Committee meets every month, this is the meeting that’s required every two years to elect new officers and register delegates for the various conventions.
While everybody is getting their forms filled out, Chairman Betsy Young tells the audience that Representative Trey Gowdy will be attending an upcoming fundraiser event in Arrington, VA.
Betsy Young goes over tonight’s rules to start the meeting.
What do you do if the American flag is being used in the other banquet room? You recruit Sharon Bohannon to be a stand-in for the flag since she’s dressed appropriately!
5th District Republican chairperson Lynn Martin is here tonight, and she reads the Republican Creed to the members.
Danville City Council candidate Madison Whittle & Brenda Bowman are here tonight.
The rules & the credentials committee has to do their official meeting now.
While the committees are doing their meetings, it’s time for candidates to speak. Madison Whittle is up first and he makes his way to the front of the room.
Danville City Council candidate Jim Lindley saves some time and does his speech from his table.
SouthsideCentral isn’t the type of media to just take notes from the back of the room… we get up where the action is and get involved. Surprise, Sandra Warren!
We like to have fun with our coverage, and you can tell we’re doing it here. We’ll have more photos from last week’s Danville Republican Committee meeting soon…. only here on SouthsideCentral!

Now why would Brenda Bowman be there? Has she moved to the city?
Non-city residents can be non-voting associate members for $5 per year. Brenda is also managing Madison Whittle’s campaign.
I was born and raised in Danville, graduated from GWHS, have family there and in the county. For the past 4 years, as a member of the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors, I have worked closely with City of Danville leaders and supported everything that happened in the city as well as the county. Even though I am not on the board, I proudly continue to support both localities and our region.
Thanks Brenda.
