Ben Jones (Cooter from the “Dukes of Hazzard”) talks to the crowd.
The costumes were amazingly detailed.
The 1860’s era costumes looked a bit out of place when people were using cellphones. Heh.
The south end wall of the Community Market was covered by a very large Confederate flag.
The decorations committee made sure that each table had a small flower arrangement.
Authentic old state flags were hanging from the ceiling. I thought I knew a lot of state flags, but this one has me puzzled.
Fred & Kathy Shanks and Emma & Nelson Rich are still relaxing at their table.
Now I do recognize the older version of the Virginia State Flag.
North Carolina? Anybody?
Well, Part #4 ended up like a “Jeopardy!” category on Old State Flags. We’ll get back on track with Old South Ball photos in the upcoming parts of this PhotoCentral series. And you’ll only find those photos here on SouthsideCentral!

What is the history behind the ball? Do you mean the history of the Confederacy or the ball itself?
For instance…we were in an old shipping warehouse, that was key to Danville’s prosperity, down by the old railroad station…we had state flags all around us, and we were in the Last Capitol of old Virginia. Loved it.
