I’ve had three people ask about the possible return of K&W Cafeteria to Danville Mall. That’s a perfect topic for “Ask SouthsideCentral!” so let’s put this one to rest.
This question came to me in person and at our SouthsideCentral Facebook page…
There’s some construction or something happening in the former Danville Mall location of K&W Cafeteria. Somebody told me that K&W Cafeteria was going to reopen in the same location. What do you know about that?”
(and yes, I combined all three questions to make the one above)
I started out with a very low confidence level on the return of K&W Cafeteria because of the limited space at the location. Also, the site didn’t really match the company’s newest locations. But SouthsideCentral is on the case!
And that case ended quickly when I talked to K&W Cafeteria’s corporate office in Winston-Salem, NC. After a few giggles and “really?” laughs, they quickly told me “No, that’s not going to happen.” So there. Sorry, folks.
As for what construction is going on at Danville Mall in that space? I’m working on that, but the mall’s office phone system has been reduced to either “Press 1 for a list of stores” or “Leave a message after the beep”. We heart mall manager Katie Keatts, but she’s responsible for Liberty Fair Mall the Villages of Martinsville open-air shopping center too and has to travel back and forth often. She’s even had to shovel snow from the mall entrances. We still heart her!
No K&W Cafeteria at Danville Mall. Sorry, folks. But continue to Ask SouthsideCentral any questions that you have!
Maybe there is one going in Penrose Mall? Or is it still dead?
You may be on to something there. I believe they have just enough space available to accommodate one.
They would never return to that same spot at the mall. I knew someone who worked there and they said there was a problem with their plumbing/water pressure that the mall owners at the time would not fix. I remember their last day was Christmas Eve the year it closed and there was talk in their closing announcement that they may build a free-standing cafeteria here, but that obviously didn’t happen.
