We’re back and it’s time to take a look at some of the stories that have caught my eye over the past week. And after this past week, I’m catching up at the same time you will be. Sunday is QuickHits day!
The Big Board storage area has cobwebs in it. Let’s clear them off and roll one out!
- The mayor of La Crosse (who also works for the town) was tossed in jail for a protective order violation.
- And he’s still in jail under no bond.
FiredRetired Martinsville school superintendent will get at least $137,000 in severance pay and up to $190,000.- After his fourth probation violation (and this one’s a doozy), a Martinsville sex offender gets three years of his suspended sentence revoked and he’s heading to prison.
- Speaking of sex offenders… a Rocky Mount man gets 11 years in jail for abusing one of his relatives for five years, starting when she was 11.
- Tickle’s back in jail under no bond for using cocaine while on probation.
- A former Farmville & Blackstone police officer gets 2 months of house arrest for embezzling from a volunteer fire department.
- South Boston ends up with a $691,000 budget surplus, so they go out and buy a new fire truck (that’s a good thing).
- A one week Burlington tent revival is now going into its 8th week.
- Sherman Calloway retires after working for the town of Chatham for 42 years.
- Biscuitville is 50 years old this month. Here’s an interview with the founder’s son.
We’ll stop with eleven reading assignments on the board for today. SouthsideCentral is back, baby!
