I’m tired of people trying to inject partisan politics into local government.
It’s time for a change in the Westover District. It’s time to get rid of Ron Scearce.
Jackie Menefee is smart, nice and aware of the issues. She bring a career of service from her career in child support enforcement so she knows how things work in government. She’s well qualified for the office and wants to represent her constituents as well as all of Pittsylvania County.
I had high hopes for Ron Scearce on his first term on the Board of Supervisors. He seemed like a good guy, ready to get into politics and make the changes needed to move the county forward. He has done good work when it comes to the budget, even voting to raise taxes when absolutely necessary, making his Tea Party (yes, they still exist) friends howl in protest.
But Ron Scearce has another side that you would never guess if you just read Henry Hurt’s glowing talk about him. Scearce was one of the conspirators to move the Department of Social Services from state control to the county’s control. Even though that failed, Scearce played dirty to the point of orchestrating the firing of DSS director Sherry Flanagan and throwing the office into a chaos that is still happening. Scearce got kicked off of the DSS board by the state and rightfully so for his actions.
But the final straw for me was when he went after challenger Jackie Menefee by calling her a democrat. DAMMIT, there is NO PLACE for partisan politics in local government. The Board of Supervisors has never worked under political parties when it comes to fixing problems and making tough decisions. And I’m going to call that disgusting behavior of Scearce here right here, right now.
Jackie Menefee knows how to jump in and take the wheel while still learning the fine points of the job. Her dedication in her previous career shows that she’s well suited for this office. Ron Scearce needs to go.
SouthsideCentral gives Jackie Menefee our highest endorsement, and we strongly urge voters in the Westover District to vote for her on November 5th.
