Remain calm. All is well. Planning for only 7000 people has been handled. They got this. Yes, it’s ridiculous. […] This is a strange mashup of two SouthsideCentral types of features. We’re going to hop in the Time Machine and go back to November 20, 2012. That’s the day that Danville City Council approved grant money to a losing trifecta of Job Busts. Get ready for a not so fun ride… […] I love economic development spin. Actually, I love to expose economic development spin and mock the hell out of it. […] It was about a year ago that there was a big announcement that promised 101 new jobs over the next three years. I bet you know where this is going… […] The Danville Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce hosted a job fair at the Institute today (with a lot of help from numerous partners). SouthsideCentral was there covering it (and hey, looking for a new job too!) and I’ve got a Big Board of Random Thoughts about it. […] Today, we finally got some information from the Danville’s Economic Development office about the quite comatose GOK furniture company. I don’t believe a damned word of it. […] I’ve got to give Henry County officials credit for doing the right thing. […] I’d like to thank Mia Brantley for granting permission to republish an essay that she wrote about her experience working Web Parts, LLC (the quite dead Job Bust where the owner has bailed out of town). Mia’s an excellent writer and I’m glad to feature her story here on SouthsideCentral. […] I’ve been working on this story for a few weeks and I now have enough properly sourced information to publish it. GOK Industries is not going to build their Danville furniture plant and will not be creating the 300 jobs as promised in the announcement. You’ve heard it first on SouthsideCentral. […] We’re LIVE! at tonight’s Danville Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce events at the Institute. We’re starting it off with a workshop on business networking and will have this month’s Business After Hours later tonight. Be sure to refresh this page often to get the latest on what’s happening tonight. We’re starting off with a workshop […] It’s all about the church. Or the kids. Or both. Or just maybe it’s government trying to legislate morality. […] The Halifax County Industrial Development Authority is only allowed to borrow $6,000,000 for the rest of the year. I’m here to tell you that this will definitely not be a problem in 2014. In other news, furniture coating isn’t really a hot and fabulous attraction. Who knew? […] We’re going to hop into the SouthsideCentral Time Machine. If you need aspirin or batteries, I suggest you get them now. They’re not going to be for sale in vending machines where we’re going. […] You don’t have to commit a stupid crime to be featured. Government officials can have dumbass ideas. […] I like good ideas that have a decent chance of working but this ain’t one of ’em. “Let’s talk” about it… […] It’ s another case of actual reality having to take precedence before virtual reality, but SouthsideCentral rolls on… As most people know, there was a spill of coal ash from a Duke Energy power plant near Eden, NC. The coal ash and related waste spilled into the Dan River and has been making its way […] The day after Danville’s Economic Development Summit, Danville’s Economic Development director resigned. Oh, that’s a good sign. After an unplanned SouthsideCentral hiatus, I’m not sure where to start… […] …when you can use Other People’s Money? […] Yes. That’s a headline I could use for multiple stories. But hey, when you build a brand new building on an area that occasionally looks like a mud bog… you might just have high water table problems. […] Thumbs UP! UP! and away! (maybe some DOWN!, too…) […] Nothing promotes our local business like the Chambers of Commerce do, and it’s time for the Danville-Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce to put on their premier event of the year… the Southside Show-Biz trade show. It’s tomorrow (Friday) from 10AM to 3 PM and Averett University’s North Campus. It’s a “Thing You Oughta Be” doing […] Although the owners are going to change the business into a smaller version of their existing Brosville pizza restaurant, Downtown Danville’s streetscaping debacle has killed another business. […] …same as the old mall. Except for 20% less stores, of course. Less Stores! More Space! […] If you want $5000 for lobbying purposes, write the damn check yourself instead of trying to get taxpayers’ money. Trust me, you won’t miss it. […] LifePoint continues to add to their medical specialty of DoubleTalk… […] |
