In the National Football League, piling on is a 15-yard personal foul penalty. Here at SouthsideCentral, it’s just an excuse to have fun at Reidsville’s Pennrose Mall’s expense. Part #5 is ready to go! Let’s continue a quick PhotoCentral series about Averett University’s Center for Community Engagement and Career Competitiveness‘ “MLK Day Of Service” blanket project. We published Part #1 of this series a few weeks ago and we’ll keep looking at the t-shirt blankets that were made. Volunteers came together to put these blankets together and they were donated to Haven, the domestic violence agency. Let’s move along! With a small break in the action here at SouthsideCentral, we’ll run Part #4 in our second series on the almost deceased Pennrose Mall in Reidsville, NC. The links to the first three articles in this series are below the cutline. We are not alone. If you don’t use your Thumbs! for ten weeks, they get rusty. Trust me on that one, folks. Being $10.7 million in debt is bad, but it’s better than being $19.1 million in debt. That’s where Danville Utilities finds themselves in their Power Cost Adjustment fund. In this BreakDown article, we’ll take a detailed look at that fund and see exactly what it means to Danville Utilities and their customers. SouthsideCentral was LIVE! at Monday’s Danville Planning Commission’s 3 PM meeting. It was over in less than nine minutes, but we’ve got the best and most comprehensive… Feh, who am I kidding? We’ve got photos, though! SouthsideCentral will be LIVE! at Monday’s Regional Industrial Facilities Authority meeting. The meeting starts at noon at the Danville Regional Airport. Be sure to refresh this article often for the latest happenings, photos and commentary. We’ll clean the article up in the editing process when we get home. Before the meeting starts, we’ll take a quick look at what will happen today. Let’s get the work week started with some stories that have caught my eye over the past two weeks. It’s QuickHits! time. SouthsideCentral was LIVE! at Thursday’s Danville School Board meeting. Although we had loads of technical difficulties, we’ve managed to put together a comprehensive recap article. Enjoy! We’re back with more on our second PhotoCentral tour of Reidsville’s Pennrose Mall. We had fun with Part #1 and we’re going to have fun with Part #2. Laugh along with us! SouthsideCentral was LIVE! at Tuesday’s Danville City Council meeting. We’ve cleaned up the article and added bonus content, so enjoy the most comprehensive recap of the meeting! Halifax County’s favorite fearmonger is up to his tired old tricks again! Wacky Jack don’t want no Islam at the old Halifax Elementary School! SouthsideCentral was at Monday night’s Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors meeting, so here comes the most comprehensive recap for you! The series of PhotoCentral articles that we did on Reidsville’s dead Pennrose Mall turned out to be our top-viewed articles of the year here at SouthsideCentral. That means we just had to go back and see if anything had changed since our last visit. If you laughed at our articles last time, you’re going to laugh harder. If you didn’t laugh at the articles, then you’re a sourpuss. Our snark has been reloaded. Let’s start the tour! The R&B’s Mike Livingston is a good crime reporter and I’m not tagging him with RottenReporting on this one. I’m just chuckling at how one word slipped past the editing process. Contrary to what a lot of people say and/or think, the City of Danville is not “in debt” or “broke”. Let’s take a comprehensive look at the city’s general fund balance in this BreakDown/NumbersCentral and see exactly what the dollar amounts say. The SouthsideCentral production staff was cleaning up the back room during the snowstorm and decided to roll out the ol’ OddsMakers! board. Lovely. That meant that the SouthsideCentral writing staff got busy and came up with four propositions that I have to go predict. Double Lovely. Heh… let’s get started! Sunday is QuickHits! day, so let’s take a look at some of the stories that have caught my eye over the past week. Technically, the first two stories are a few weeks old but they haven’t gotten any mention in the Southside region (readers love armed robbery stories). In our last PhotoCentral article, we showed you how volunteers were rebuilding and refurbishing Danville’s Little Free Libraries at the annual “MLK Day of Service” sponsored by Averett’s Center for Community Engagement and Career Competitiveness. But that wasn’t the only project going on that day! Volunteers also helped make t-shirt fleece blankets to be donated to the needy to keep warm in the cold weather. Let’s take a look at that creative service project in this and the next few articles… It’s a snowy day in the Southside, so we’re going to catch up on some PhotoCentral articles. On Monday, January 18th, Averett’s Center for Community Engagement and Career Competitiveness organized the “MLK Day of Service” with volunteers helping on projects that benefit the community. One of the projects was rebuilding the Little Free Libraries that are all over the city. Weather had taken a toll on them and the CCECC decided it would be a good project to refurbish them. Let’s take a look at the work in progress. SouthsideCentral is glad to publish Danville School Board candidates’ election/reelection announcement speech in their entirety as a public service. Today, Jeff Hubbard announced his candidacy for reelection. Here is his statement. SouthsideCentral was LIVE! at Tuesday’s January 19th Danville City Council meeting. We’ve added some bonus content and photos, so enjoy the most comprehensive recap of the meeting that you’ll find from any media source. We’ll clean this article up in the editing process. Let’s get started! Let’s wrap up our PhotoCentral series on Sunday’s “America’s Sunday Supper” sponsored by Averett University’s Center for Community Engagement and Career Competitiveness. The event was held at the River District Event Center and we’ve already published Part #1 & Part #2. Away we go! SouthsideCentral had a busy day on Sunday, so we’re moving our QuickHits! article to Monday this week. Let’s take a look at the stories that have caught my eye this past week. |
