We’re continuing our quick PhotoCentral on Sunday’s “America’s Sunday Supper” sponsored by Averett University’s Center for Community Engagement and Career Competitiveness. We’ve already published Part #1 in the series, so let’s get to Part #2 now! On Sunday, January 17th, Averett University’s Center for Community Engagement and Career Competitiveness sponsored the first “America’s Sunday Supper” at the River District Event Center. People from all around the Southside region got together to have small group discussions about the region and ways to make things better. In this PhotoCentral series, we’re going to take a look at Sunday’s event. Let’s get started with the first set of photos! Here at SouthsideCentral, we strongly encourage replies and feedback to our articles. We’re glad to publish any replies that are directed to us. In this YouCentral article, Leonard Harville replied to about our latest LeonardWatch article about him disclosing a potential child abuse situation before the police arrived on scene. Our favorite muckraking moron may have given potential child abusers a head start to escape a police encounter. Seriously. Let’s take a look at some of the December financial statements from Danville’s Industrial Development Authority. In this NumbersCentral article, we’ll look at their main checking account and talk about what got paid in rental income during the month of December 2015. I could call this a NumbersCentral article, but I’ve got a cool BreakDown graphic… so it’s a BreakDown! SouthsideCentral was LIVE! at Danville City Hall for Tuesday’s Industrial Development Authority meeting. We’ve got the most detailed recap of what happened, so enjoy reading! UPDATE: Danville’s IDA voted to take a 90-day purchase option on the property so that they could have the time needed for an environmental study on the underground gas tanks. We’re still 100% confident that the IDA will eventually buy the property. SouthsideCentral has learned that Danville’s Industrial Development Authority will vote to buy the gas station next to the Danville Museum of Fine Arts & History at their meeting on Tuesday, January 12th. SouthsideCentral was at Monday’s RIFA meeting and almost nothing happened! But hey, that didn’t stop us from getting some photos. Let’s take a look at what did happen in this article… Even though this event happened in May 2015, the numbers are showing that you readers are enjoying the photos, so we’ll continue with the next PhotoCentral article in the series on Centra’s Danville Medical Center groundbreaking. We’re continuing with our PhotoCentral series on May 2015’s Centra Danville Medical Center groundbreaking. We’ve already published the first part of this series and we’ll continue where we left off. Back in May 2015, Centra had the groundbreaking ceremony and celebration for their new Danville medical center complex. I had thought we had done a PhotoCentral series on the event, but it looks like that never happened. Since the Centra construction is being talked about in the Southside News & Views Facebook group, let’s get started with some photos from the event. We’re going to jump back in to the PhotoCentral series of articles on Danville’s Veterans Day Parade. We’ve already published ten articles in this series and we’ve got the rundown on them for you below the cutline. Let’s move along and see some more parade photos! SouthsideCentral was LIVE! at Thursday’s Danville School Board meeting. Enjoy the recap! SouthsideCentral will be covering at least the first monthly meeting of the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors, so let’s see what happened at the reorganizational meeting on Monday night. SouthsideCentral was LIVE! at the January 5th Danville City Council meeting and we finally got around to adding the bonus content and finalizing the article. Whoops! Enjoy the recap! SouthsideCentral is glad to publish Danville City Council candidates’ election/reelection announcement speech in their entirety as a public service. Today, Lee Vogler announced his candidacy for reelection. Here is his statement. Instead of some Sunday reading assignments, let’s do Monday reading assignments. It’s time for QuickHits, so lets see some of the stories that have caught my eyes over the past week. It’s only January 3rd, but we’ve got candidate for Parking Jerks of the Year already. And you might notice that we’re using the plural form of the word “Jerk”. That’s right, we’ve got two for the price of one! This is a weird way to start 2016, but I feel this endorsement is needed to keep Pittsylvania County on the right track. Only the seven elected members of the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors will vote on this decision, but county residents can make their feelings known to their supervisor before the vote happens. Robert Hurt decided not to run for a fourth term in the 5th District US House of Representatives, so it’s now Silly Season to see who’ll be his Republican nominee replacement in November 2016’s election. We’ve got a list of 9 Republicans (or at least likely Republicans) who have either declared their candidacy for the office or have been mentioned as possible candidates. Let’s do a Food Chain to see where the group shakes out. Recently retired Danville City Manager Joe King died at the age of 65 on Saturday. Today, the City of Danville issued a statement about his death and SouthsideCentral is glad to publish it for you to read in its entirety. Jeremy Stratton, Danville’s former economic developer, sent this email to SouthsideCentral today and I feel it’s something that you need to read. SouthsideCentral has wiped the original article regarding Jeremy Stratton due to sourcing that has been retracted. What? No QuickHits yet in the month of December? Let’s get that fixed right now by taking a look at some of the stories that have caught my eyes over the past few weeks. I’m putting this article in the “RottenReporting” category, but it’s really not Reporting nor is it Rotten. It’s just a lame throwaway thing to laugh at. Meh. Without this piece of news, we might have forgotten what the moon looks like. |
