PhotoCentral: Bright Leaf Hoedown – Part #1

SouthsideCentral goes to as many events as possible in the region and we could easily start another website with just PhotoCentral articles… but I like to throw them in here when I can to make sure there’s plenty of content that you readers want to see.

On Saturday, September 19th, the town of Yanceyville NC held the annual Bright Leaf Hoedown. That was one of our multiple stops during the day so we’re going to start a new PhotoCentral series on scenes from the event. We’ve got tons of photos, and that means lots of PhotoCentral articles in the coming days (weeks? months? years? Heh.)

Let’s get started with our first article in the series.

UPDATED: Say, That’s Odd: Useless Post Office Poles

UPDATE: One of SouthsideCentral’s good friends has gotten the answer for us. I’ve added that to the bottom of the article.

SouthsideCentral had a busy day on Saturday, and one of my stops was in Yanceyville for the annual Bright Leaf Hoedown festival. We’ll have lots of photos from there soon, but I started off with a “Say, That’s Odd” moment with I walked by their post office…

Danville’s least popular restaurant has closed. Say it with me… “Wow. Didn’t see that one coming.” But hey, we’ve got photos!

Let’s talk about Kathy Farley…

I’ve always believed that one’s true religion is what you personally believe, and that organized religion isn’t for everybody… but that’s not what this article is about. Today, it was a case of “Hate the sin, love the sinner” in United States Federal Court today. Kathy Farley pleaded guilty to four federal charges, and it was tough to even think about.

Despite those guilty pleas to federal charges, I still consider Kathy Farley a good friend and I support her in her progress to make amends for her wrongdoings.

TROTS: Getting rid of the non-resident library card fee

I’m glad that the $50 fee that the City of Danville is charging for non-residents to get a library card is about to be eliminated. However, if you just read what’s in the Danville Register & Bee article about it, you’re not getting what caused this to happen on Tuesday night. Let’s take a look at The Rest Of The Story.

ShrimpFest 2015 – LIVE!

Editor’s Note: I have no idea what happened to the photos in this article. I had 16 photos, had uploaded them using the WiFi at the event and my phone shows all 16 photos in the article. I started to work on the article from home, and there’s only four photos here. I was able to recover one more from the WordPress app on my phone, but the others are just gone. I’ll make this up with lots more photos that I took with my camera. I just don’t know what happened here, and I’m sorry for that.

Wednesday was  the day for the annual Danville Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce ShrimpFest and SouthsideCentral covered the event LIVE! It’s the only LIVE! coverage of ShrimpFest 2015, and it’s only here on SouthsideCentral. (again with my apologies for the failure).

NumbersCentral: “So what does the DRF do?”

One of the most frequent questions that I get is “What does the Danville Regional Foundation do with their money?” Unfortunately, a lot of people have a mindset that the DRF is a closed-door, good-ol’-boy cigar club that’s a secret society tossing out cash to the people who don’t really need it.

That’s not the case, folks. In today’s NumbersCentral, we’re going to take a look at where over $9,000,000 went in 2014 and then we’ll discuss some of the grants.
