SouthsideCentral is always glad to help the Danville Register & Bee (and other media sources) out with stories that they wouldn’t have known about without us. Hahahahaha! The Danville Public School system did not remove plaques with American flags and “In God We Trust” from Forest Hills School to not offend Muslim students. If I’m going to spend two hours destroying a stupid rumor, I’m going to turn it into a SouthsideCentral article. Why make half of the people mad at you when you can get someone else to do the dirty work for you? We’ll wrap up our first look at Pittsylvania County’s upcoming November elections in this article. In the first part, we looked at four of the Board of Supervisors races, and we’ll cover the other three districts and the constitutional offices here. It’s July 1st, so it’s time to take our first look at the upcoming November 3rd elections. We’ll start with Pittsylvania County’s slate. You may know him as Glenwood Smith or you may know him as Kirk Smith. That doesn’t matter because he’s got one of the best singing voices around. Kirk took the spotlight in last Thursday’s “Tunes at the Saloon” at Danville’s Texas Steakhouse & Saloon and we’ve got lots of video clips of his performance. I’m going to put this article back up because some people have recently asked me “How can I help SouthsideCentral out?” This is not a shameless money beg from people that have already contributed to SouthsideCentral. I just want readers to know that I appreciate them stopping by every day. SouthsideCentral is surviving and it’s a small business now. I couldn’t do it without your support and encouragement. If you’d like to promote your business, SouthsideCentral has extremely low advertising rates and I’d be glad to talk to you about getting the word out for you. Thanks, folks. Your support means a lot. It’s not easy to keep a full-time effort going to keep SouthsideCentral at full speed. It’s also not easy to ask for help. SouthsideCentral is the leading personally-owned website in the Southside Virginia region. We fuse news and opinion together with some humor and do our best to keep you informed with things that other local media can’t or won’t do. Over the last year, I’ve devoted my efforts to the website and it’s paid off. We went from an average of 4000 hits per month to over 40000 per month and the trend is continuing to increase. I believe that’s because there’s a need for the content that I put together. Sadly, it costs money to produce content and pay for the equipment needed to do what I’ve been doing… and that’s why I’m asking for some help from people who find the website to be enjoyable. If you like what you see, I’m asking you to donate something to help me keep it going. I’m not asking for much. One dollar here, three dollars there, ten dollars from anywhere. Anything will help me to keep my full-time efforts going. If you don’t want to give anything, that’s perfectly fine with me… but I’m just asking for some help if you’re willing. It wasn’t easy for me to put this fundraising campaign together, but times are tough now. I had to swallow my pride. If you choose to make a gift, I will sincerely thank you. Here’s how it works. I’m using GoFundMe.com to make it easy. If you want to help out, go to http://www.gofundme.com/southsidecentral GoFundMe doesn’t charge you any fees to make a donation/gift. Between GofundMe and their payment processor, they charge 7.9% + $0.30 on my end. If you’d like to contact me directly or have any questions or comments, feel free to email me at bhedrick@southsidecentral.com or on my personal Facebook page. You can also find SouthsideCentral on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/southsidecentral. If you’d like to advertise your business on SouthsideCentral, feel free to contact me too. Our advertisers and friends can personally tell you how well the small cost has paid off for them. I’ll be glad to sit down with you and develop an advertising campaign that will easily fit your budget and bring you new customers. Thank you for your time. Sincerely, Bruce Hedrick Let’s wrap up our PhotoCentral look at a Thing You Oughta Be doing tonight and tomorrow… The North Star Theatre Project is going to be running an amazing production of Disney’s “The Lion King Jr.” over two weekends. Over 30 local kids (and many behind-the-scenes adults) have come together for this summer’s feature show. We’re already published Part #1 and Part #2 in this series. On to Part #3! We’re LIVE! at the Danville School Board office at a special called meeting of the Danville School Board. The meeting starts at 3:30 PM. Be sure to refresh the page often for the latest photos, happenings and commentary. We’ll clean the article up when we get home tonight. Hey everybody! The Confederate Flag on the grounds of the Danville Museum of Fine Arts & History is back in the news again! Hooray! Yay! Meh. In this article, I’m going to predict the outcome of Round #2 and tell you how it’s going to happen. UP! or DOWN! ’em if you got ’em, boys. Thumbs, that is. Let’s play. We were LIVE! at Danville City Hall for today’s Danville Utility Commission meeting. This article is now complete, so enjoy the recap. My goodness! It’s been a while since we mocked to jerk parking habits shown by some in the SouthsideCentral region. Let’s leap to South Boston’s Walmart parking lot for today’s award recipient. Thursday night was the weekly “Tunes at the Saloon” night at Danville’s Texas Steakhouse & Saloon. Ted Dalton & Evan Parrish from Homie’s Heroes were back for another night of great music. SouthsideCentral was there and you know that we got lots of photos and video. We also had a great dinner there and highly suggest that you do the same soon. Be sure to click this link to get a free appetizer with the purchase of your meal. Let’s get to the highlights! We’re LIVE! at tonight’s Danville School Board meeting. It’s time for Part #2 of our look at a Thing You Oughta Be doing this weekend and next… The North Star Theatre Project is putting on an amazing production of Disney’s “The Lion King Jr.” over the next two weekends. Over 30 local kids (and many behind-the-scenes adults) have come together for this summer’s feature show. We’re already published Part #1, and we’ve got more of the behind-the-scenes work in Part #2 right here. I’ve got a Thing You Oughta Be doing this weekend and next… The North Star Theatre Project is putting on an amazing production of Disney’s “The Lion King Jr.” over the next two weekends. Over 30 local kids (and many behind-the-scenes adults) have come together for this summer’s feature show. Let’s take a look at some rehearsal photos. Well, that explains last night’s Danville City Council work session only being a closed session for personnel matters. Joe King has announced his retirement effective Nov. 30th. Editor’s Note: Well, that didn’t go as planned. I was tied up at another coverage event and wasn’t able to make it to City Council’s meeting until 7:30 PM. I’ll update the article on Wednesday.
UPDATE: The Register & Bee corrected the article within two hours of this article being published. Behold the power of SouthsideCentral. I did my best to avoid writing this edition of RottenReporting, but the Register & Bee wouldn’t modify their story.
