We’ve made it to the finish line at Danville’s JTI Fountain and it’s almost time for the 2016 River District Scavenger Hunt prize drawings! Let’s go! We’re getting very close to the prize drawings in the 2016 River District Scavenger Hunt, so let’s continue this PhotoCentral series. It’s been a long time since I thought randomly. Well, at least in a SouthsideCentral article… Some people have mood swings. I have Thumbs! swings. This Thumbs! article is dedicated to Friday’s Danville City Council organizational meeting, so it’s longer than a normal Thumbs! article. I’m good with that. On Friday, Lee Vogler nominated Alonzo Jones to be the new vice mayor of Danville. SouthsideCentral is glad to publish that nomination speech unedited for you to read. At Friday’s Danville City Council organizational meeting, John Gilstrap was elected as mayor. Sherman Saunders’ 8-year run as mayor came to an end, and he made a speech during the around the horn section. SouthsideCentral is glad to publish Saunders’ speech in its entirety so that you can read it. The SouthsideCentral TipLine has been busy since our City Council Parking Jerk of the Day! Yep, we’ve got another City Council one that’s been anonymously sent in. This is getting fun! The obligatory “HAHAHAHAHA!” goes here, of course. (Editor’s Note: In the spirit of fairness, our nominee has told me that a police officer said that his parking was OK. This one is for humor purposes only.) Nobody has immunity when it comes to being a Parking Jerk of the Day. Nobody. HAHAHAHAHA! SouthsideCentral was LIVE! at today’s Danville City Council organizational meeting. This article is now complete, so enjoy the raecap. You can still be a Parking Jerk even if you don’t take up multiple spaces in a parking lot. Some people have noticed a new set of street signs going up around Danville that say “Drug & Gang Free School Zone”. No, the thought process behind the signs isn’t “Gee, now criminals won’t do illegal things because of the signs being posted.” Let’s Ask SouthsideCentral and find out the truth. Let’s also get some straight talk about “Does Danville have gangs?” while we’re at it. It’s the end of the two-year grading term for Danville City Council, and we’re giving out the final grades today. We’re nearing the end of this PhotoCentral series on the 2016 River District Scavenger Hunt and we’re glad that you’ve enjoyed looking at all the photos. When we left off in Part #9, we had made it back to the JTI Fountain and was getting ready for the prize drawings. We had also left Susan Granger in Lizzy Lou Boutique, trying on dresses… but she’ll catch back up! Sometimes, you’ve just got to say what’s true. Even if people get offended, try to deny it, or are just stupid enough to not listen to reasonable talk. Get ready because… “These five things I KNOW are true!” George Washington High School’s drama department has been selected to perform in the world’s largest arts festival in Scotland, and they’re going to asking for your help. Let’s take a look at the first announcement of what’s going on. Let’s take a look at some of the stories that have caught my eye over the past week. Sunday is QuickHits! day. We’ve gotten most of the serious stuff out of the way here at SouthsideCentral for this week, so let’s show off some more photos from this year’s River District Scavenger Hunt. We’ve got links to the other articles below the cutline. When we left you last time, we were making our way to the finish line for the prize drawings. Let’s keep going! Leonard Harville got his feelings hurt at Tuesday night’s Danville City Council meeting when Buddy Rawley called him out for being a liar and being unprofessional. Damn. The truth hurts. Let’s take a comprehensive look at what happened before, during and after Danville City Council’s June 21st meeting. We’ll analyze what you were able to see, what you weren’t able to see and throw in some other thoughts. We call this a BreakDown. We’ve already given you the most comprehensive recap of Tuesday night’s Danville City Council meeting, but we had a lot of photos that didn’t make the final cut into final article. Let’s take a look at those photos and have some commentary in this BonusCentral article. SouthsideCentral was LIVE! at the dam Danville City Council meeting on Tuesday night. This article is now complete, so enjoy the recap! Thumbs! are better than Big Toes! because you really can’t tell when somebody puts Big Toes! UP or DOWN. Let’s see what we like and what we don’t like this time. The discussion about what to do with Danville’s dam at the old White Mill location has been blown way out of proportion by a lot of people. On Tuesday night, Danville City Council will vote on a resolution authorizing the demolition of the dam. SouthsideCentral strongly urges a “No” vote on this resolution and asks for more time to consider all of the options and the ramifications of those options. There’s no immediate pressing need to start demolishing the dam right now. Let’s hop into the SouthsideCentral Time Machine and go back to the weekend of July 18, 2009. We’ll take a PhotoCentral look at the demolition of Danville’s Worsham Street Bridge. Sunday is QuickHits day! Let’s take a look at some of the stories around the region that have caught my eye in the last week. |
